Configuring deployment to a remote PowerDynamo server

Deploying to a PowerDynamo database Web site on a remote server
requires special configuration on both the local and remote machines.
It also requires that PowerDynamo be installed on both machines.

proc.gif To configure a Web target for remote deployment
to PowerDynamo:

  1. Select a database on the remote machine
    to contain your Web site.

    or

Create a new database on the remote machine to contain
    your Web site.

You can create a new database using Adaptive Server Anywhere
    from Sybase Central.

  2. Set up a System DSN configuration for the new
    or selected database.

    Reference the DBSRV8.EXE engine
in the Start Line on the Database tab of the ODBC Administrator
    on the remote machine.

For example, you could type the following in the Start Line
    text box:

note.gif Server name and database name If you enter a server name and database name, make a note
of these names for the database connection you will make from your
local machine. If you do not fill in these connection properties,
default names will be assigned–based on the DOS file name
    of the database you selected.

  3. Set up a new PowerDynamo connection profile for
your database from Sybase Central on the remote machine and connect
to the database using this profile.

If your data source does not contain Web tables, a Sybase
Central message box will prompt you to create a Web site and to
provide a root folder name when you try to connect. If your data
source already contains Web tables, a message box will not display,
and you must skip the next step.

  4. Add a Web site to the database if so prompted,
and provide a root name for your connection.

The default name for your PowerDynamo root folder is Site.
Optionally, you can add PowerDynamo HTML Help and a sample application
    to your Web site database.

  5. Add a mapping name in Sybase Central for your
    PowerDynamo connection profile.

  6. Set up a System DSN configuration on the local
machine that points to the currently running remote database.

The entries for the Server Name and the Database Name fields
must be the same as those configured for the connection on the remote
server. These fields are case sensitive. By default, the database
name on the remote server is the name of the DOS file name (minus
the DB extension) of the database running on the remote server.
For the local machine configuration, leave the Start Line and the
    Database File fields blank.

On the Network page of the ODBC Administrator, select the
TCP/IP check box and assign the host name of the remote
machine in the text box next to the check box. The assignment syntax
    is:

  7. Create a new PowerDynamo connection profile for
your database from Sybase Central on the local machine.

Add the same mapping name in Sybase Central on your
local machine that you used for the mapping on the remote machine
    (in step 5 above).

  8. Create a deployment configuration for the Web
target using the data source from the local machine (that points
to the remote machine) and the mapping name that you set up for
the PowerDynamo profile on both the local and remote machines.

For information on creating a deployment configuration, see “Setting up a deployment
    configuration”
    .

Y ou deploy your Web target pages (using the new
deployment configuration) the same way you deploy a local Web target.
    See “Deploying a Web target”.

Before you run your remotely deployed Web site, make sure
to start the Web server on the remote machine. Otherwise, you can
build and run a remote Web site from your local development machine,
the same way you build and run a local Web target. See “Running a Web target”.
