Discontinued/Obsolete Features

While new features are added in PowerBuilder, some of the existing
features might no longer be needed or recommended for use.

The following features are considered as obsolete/discontinued
features, starting from Version 2022
R2:

(Obsolete) DDE functions and
events
(Obsolete) LoadWithDotNetFramework and
LoadWithDotNetCore functions. You can replace these functions with
LoadWithDotNet
function.
(Discontinued) Windows 8.1 & Windows
Server 2012 R2 operating system
(Discontinued) The DirectConnect
database connection. You can switch to use the ODBC or native
database connection.

Discontinued features are
features that have been completely removed from the product.

Obsolete features are still
available to use, but are no longer eligible for technical support and
will no longer be enhanced.

Following is a complete list of features that are considered
obsolete/discontinued in Version 2017 R3 thru Version 2022 R2.

2022	Discontinued	Built-in Rich Edit Control (TE Edit Control). You can replace it with TX Text Control.
	Discontinued	Java and JDK 1.6 support. For workarounds, please contact Appeon Support at support@appeon.com.
	Discontinued	Web Service DataWindow
	Discontinued	OData data source
	Discontinued	.NET Web Service target (using SOAP)
	Discontinued	Creating Web service proxy for connecting to SOAP server. As a replacement for EasySoap and SOAP clients, you can use HTTPClient object to call SOAP Web services.
	Discontinued	Windows 7 operating system
	Discontinued	.NET Assembly target
	Obsolete	PBC (PowerBuilder Compiler). You can use PBAutoBuild instead.
	Obsolete	Microsoft Active Accessibility (MSAA)
2019 R3	Obsolete	Built-in Rich Edit Control (TE Edit Control)
	Obsolete	Inet object (GetURL, PostURL, HyperlinkToURL)
	Obsolete	Opening Internet Explorer browser pages in the OLEControl
	Obsolete	Windows 7 operating system
2019 R2	Obsolete	Docking windows
2019 R2	Obsolete	Windows Server 2008 operating system
2019	Obsolete	.NET Web Service target (using SOAP)
2019	Obsolete	.NET Assembly target
2017 R3	Obsolete	Web Service proxy for connecting to SOAP server (including SoapConnection class, SoapException class, SoapPBCookie class, UDDIProxy class)
	Obsolete	DataWindow data source using OData Service and SOAP Web Service
	Discontinued	Web DataWindow
	Obsolete	EJB client
